The e Buses

The e can get you where you need to go -- whether that’s to work, school, around town or across town.

The e runs every day except on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, Labor Day, July 4, Thanksgiving and Christmas day.

Buses are handicapped accessible. Each bus has a built-in ramp that lowers to allow those in wheelchairs to board the bus. Once on the bus, there are positions available to secure the wheelchair.

The BayLiner Trolley is Your Free Ride!

Convenient for employees who work at downtown businesses and organizations such as Hamot, HealthSouth and Erie Insurance, the BayLiner provides a quick and easy transportation option. And it’s free!

Riding the BayLiner also makes it easy to go to businesses, restaurants and entertainment spots along State Street. Service begins at the bayfront and runs to 14th Street, using State Street.

Service: Monday through Friday

Bayfront Park and Ride – 6:10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Intermodal Center -- 6:16 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturdays: from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The BayLiner service begins at the bayfront and runs to 14th Street, using State Street. So, get on board a trolley and travel to your favorite downtown spot! To request brochures for your business, please call 459-8922.

Can I rent the BayLiner Trolley? No. New federal regulations took effect April 30, 2008, to more clearly limit the role of public transit systems in offering charter bus service. That means that the e can no longer accommodate individual and group trip requests. There will be no more Bayliner Trolley rentals. Some trips for elected officials and human service organizations may be allowed if certain criteria are met. The potential penalty for violation is the loss of all federal funding.

The e LIFT

The LIFT Program is the name of the County of Erie’s safe, reliable, customer-friendly, shared-ride, advanced-request transportation system. The LIFT’s goal is to provide all of your transportation needs.

What is the LIFT? The LIFT is a wheelchair-accessible vehicle that can accommodate most accessibility devices.

Who can use the LIFT? All organizations and residents of Erie County who live beyond the bus routes or are unable to utilize bus services. Income is not a consideration and there is no fee to apply.

Is there a fee to use the LIFT? The lift is low or no cost transportation determined through the application process. Please contact the LIFT offices to see how this applies to you.

How do I use the LIFT? You need to register for LIFT services by completing a simple application form. These forms are available at most area social-service agencies and at the LIFT administration office at 825 West 18th Street.

Where does the LIFT go? The LIFT operates within the borders of Erie County and will provide door-to-door service. Typical trips include transportation to medical appointments, shopping and recreational activities.

When are services available? Services are available in the Erie urbanized area Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. until 10:30 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m., except holidays. Services are available in the rural areas Monday through Friday. Please call for the available times at (814) 455-3330.

How do I contact the LIFT for scheduling? The LIFT scheduling Line, 814-456-2299, is available seven days a week. Monday through Friday you may call and schedule rides between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday the Scheduling Line is automated and only accepting reservations for the following day. Calls will be returned between the hours of 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to confirm scheduling information.

How can I get transportation to rural areas?

To serve people with disabilities who either live in the rural area or need transportation to the rural area, the e/LIFT is providing discounted shared ride services for eligible residents of Erie County. Travel Trainer

Who is encouraged to ride? Everyone looking to learn how to ride the e is encouraged to set up an appointment.

What will I learn? Training will cover the basic aspects of riding the bus -- from how to pay fares to the actual reading of the schedule. Each training session will be created to meet the needs of the individual or groups needs. How long is the training session? About 1 hour

How often are the training sessions? Training sessions are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
